About the Society General Information The Midwest Cactus & Succulent Society was organized in 1936 by a group of men and women who were interested in the study, collection and cultivation of cacti and succulents, and we continue to meet today. We are an affiliate of the national Cactus & Succulent Society of America (CSSA). Our members live throughout northeast Ohio, from the west side of Cleveland to eastern Lake County and as far south as Canal Fulton. We are a very diverse group made up of men and women, teenagers and older, married and singles, housewives, businessmen, students, academics and professionals. Member expertise ranges from the beginner eager to learn, to the long time collector who loves to share knowledge and yet will tell you they are still learning. We grow our plants on windowsills, under lights, outside in summer, on porches and in greenhouses. Library We have a library of many books and journals related to succulents that can be loaned to members. The more popular items are brought to the meetings. For others, contact the librarian in advance of the meeting. A list is available. Special Events The society sponsors an annual spring Cactus & Succulent Show and Sale at the Cleveland Botanical Garden. We have occasional one day field trips to visit growers or cactus and succulent shows. In December we have our annual Holiday party, plant gift exchange and election of officers. Meetings Meetings are held September thru June on the third Sunday of the month, 1:00-4:00 pm, Locations vary but our usual place is Cleveland Botanical Garden. Please refer to the FB page for the most up to date information. Dues Our local membership dues are $20.00. Membership to the Cactus & Succulent Society of America (CSSA) is optional for $50.00 and includes a subscription to the Cactus and Succulent Journal. Contact CSSAinc.org for membership.
